A note on Photographs - All of us are taking pictures - I'll do my best to give photo credits with an initial, but if I miss one be sure to let me know! J = Jon, D = Don, A = Anne & C = Carol. You can usually tell Anne's - her camera puts the date on the image! Also, most of the images are scans of old & faded prints, so the quality may not be all that hot.

June 9 - Bedford, VA (152mi)

Well, it is still raining but we are getting good at packing up wet tents. Anne had an interesting shower this morning. Although they are free, the hot water cost $1.00 for 5 minutes. That seems long enough, but if you don't make it, the water turns ice cold without warning - we heard the scream all the way back at the tents. It was such a shock to the system that she needed another buck's worth to clean up!

The plan for today is to continue down Skyline Drive. Somewhere along the way it changes to the Blue Ridge Parkway, but we are not sure where (Maybe Waynesboro?) In any case, we are now on the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is still raining & we are thinking it would be a good idea to skip tenting tonight & try a motel. We added CB's to both our cars so we can discuss things as we drive. We are at Bedford, VA, and "camping" at the Best Western.

June 10 - Winston-Salem & The North Carolina School for the Arts (214mi)

After a good night's sleep it was off to Winston-Salem, NC. I've seen many ads for the North Carolina School for the Arts in some of our technical theatre magazines, & wanted to stop by to see what the school looked like. Since it isn't too far out of our way this was the time. Not a lot of students around - school is already over for the year, but we did meet the technical director & he gave us a tour. The place has an incredible amount of space - some of the shops consist of an entire warehouse!

After our tour, checked out Old Winston-Salem, then headed back to the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping for the night at Julian Price State Park (Mile 297 near Boone, NC.) Julian Price has a lake, 300 campsites, some of the best "Bouldering" (a type of rock climbing) in the country & many hiking trails. Oh, and it rains there just like everywhere we go!
