Day 28, Saturday, November 15, 2025 - Pecan Valley RV Park & Farm, Junction, TX - 235.3 Miles, 2,232.7 Miles for the Trip
A comfortable night with the outside temperature going down to 61°F and inside the trailer at 65°F. I skipped my morning walk since I have another over 200 mile drive today.
I finished breakfast & my coffee by 9:15, and left the park by 9:30. While the last 20 miles was on I 10, most of the drive was on US & TX roads. Lots of 4 lane sections, and the 2 lane sections had passing lanes every 10 miles or so. Heavy traffic in Austin & Fredericksburg. I stopped at the HEB in Fredericksburg and as usual am amazed by the size of the store. Their frozen food section didn't have much vegetarian stuff, but hey, I'm in Texas! The heavy traffic & doing 65MPH on twisty secondary roads didn't help my gas mileage - 10.2MPG for the drive.
I stopped at a Pilot on I 1o about 7 miles from Pecan Valley, and as usual, I pulled in behind someone that took forever to fill the tank, clean out his trash, and do what ever he did after filling that took 10 minutes. Another gripe with Pilot is it won't give me a discount with my phone number. It insists that the number is duplicated, asks for my zip code, I put it in and then nothing. An added annoyance - had to go inside to get a receipt. I think I should stick with Loves.
I'm in site 2, a full hook up site on asphalt that needed 2 1/2" side to side & 3/4" rise in the tongue. I didn't unhook since I'm only here for 2 days and don't plan on going anywhere. $45.00 per night. Picnic table & fire ring. This is an interesting RV park. There are chickens running around the park & they sell both eggs & pecans. I bought my usual candied pecans - $19.00 per pound. I probably should pick up some eggs as well.

After setting up I immediately fired up the AC. 88F outside, and 85°F in the trailer. I in a half hour the inside was down to 80°F and the AC set on 76°F started cycling on & off. After setting up both inside & out I got out a folding chair and sat outside. I'll wait until it cools off a bit before going for a walk. Current book is Connie Willis' To Say Nothing of the Dog. I did finish Ngaio Marsh's Alleyn #33, Money on the Morgue yesterday and enjoyed the series. I have to say I'm also enjoying Connie Willis. This is the third of her books that I've read, and surprised that I didn't know of her stuff well enough to follow. She has the record for the most Nebula awards as well as many other science fiction awards. I'll have to look for more of her books. An hour later the trailer is down to the AC set temperature of 76°F.
A little bit of wind, but not enough to blow out the grill. Dinner was a Chicken Bubba Burger & a salad. While I was cooking the burger a herd of deer wandered by. I probably should send a photo to my brother and gloat - Absolutely no deer on his Catskill property this year. Might have something to do with the three families of black bears that moved in. He is going to have to rely on his shared cow for meat this winter.
