Day 22, Sunday, November 9, 2025 - South Toledo Bend State Park, Anacoco, LA - 166.8 Miles, 1,761.6 Miles for the Trip

A bit cooler overnight with the outside temperature going down to 55°F, but again, no heating needed in the trailer. Since I'm going less than 200 miles today, I took the time to do a morning walk & my usual morning forum & journal reading. I left the park around 10:30.

Most of the drive was on US 84 & Louisiana 28. As usual, I took a photo as I crossed the Mississippi.

Crossing The Mississippi

And, as usual, I drove through many of the small towns where I worked with the Red Cross during the recovery from hurricane Katrina as well as Fort Polk where I had my advanced infantry training prior to heading to Viet Nam in 1968. I was trained on the 81mm mortar. Never saw one in my year with the 101st, but was given an M79 grenade launcher which was the closest thing to a mortar that we carried. Fort Polk in August was not one of my most pleasant memories of my 2 years in the army.

I arrived at South Toledo Bend State Park around 2:30. They have an entry station, one of the first of the trip. I asked if I could change my site from 14 to one that was more level; my notes from my last trip said that site 14 was almost impossible to level the trailer. We settled on site 18, a pull through on asphalt that only needed 1/2" side to side & a 2" drop to level the trailer. Water & electric with a picnic table, fire ring & lantern hook; no grill. Since my reservation was for a regular site & a pull through is considered a premium site I had to pay a bit more. Still inexpensive. They have a 50% discount for over 62 - the site is $23.21 per night.

Site 18

Speaking of night (well, typing), they are going to get cold. My weather app says 34°F for the next two nights, then up to 52°F overnight for Wednesday. I don't plan on leaving the campground since most shopping, including a barber shop is 27 miles away & a 35 minute drive.

I checked out the internet speeds for my cell modems - Verizon is 32.16Mbps down & .55Mbps up while AT&T shows 52.14Mbps down & 5.43Mbps up. As usual, I'll stick with AT&T since it is truly unlimited. My site has a pretty good north view so if Starlink becomes necessary I can probably switch to it.

I finished listening to Kate Alice Marchall's What lies in the Woods, another highly romantic result when doing a search using "mystery/ thriller". The narrator Karissa Vacker was noted in the reviews & she was good, but I still wish there was a way to exclude romance novels when doing a search on Libby. It seems most of the results of a search using mystery & thriller are romance novels. I'm going to try a Karin Slaughter audio book next - Pieces of Her. I've read over 10 of her novels so I know what I'm in for.

I'm just about finished reading The Square of Sevens by Laura Shephard-Robinson and have really enjoyed it.

Dinner was a Chef Ramsay's Chicken Marsala Pasta bowl.

Until Tomorrow -
