Well, I'm home. Yea, I know, this post is a couple of days late. Being away from home for a couple of weeks lets things pile up that need to be fixed, etc. So, I finally got the time to finish. I took the usually early morning, leaving Nantucket photos. One difference this time; far fewer boats in the harbor. Many were pulled for the hurricane - lots of empty moorings.

The trip home was interesting. No problem getting gas in Hyannis, but I used my WRVO iPhone app to listen to my local NPR station on the drive home, and found out that the Thruway was closed from exit 25A to exit 30. Probably a good idea - the reason for closing was concerns about the bridges over the Schoharie Creek. In 1987 10 people were killed when two sections of the bridges collapsed after a storm washed out the supports. By the way, I drove across the bridges about 2 hours before they fell. Must have been my lucky day!

Anyhow, I decided to bypass the Thruway in Albany & pick up US 20. It went well until I hit the intersection of US 20 & NY 7. Lots of traffic got off the Thruway, hit NY 7, and ended up on US 20 at Duanesburg. Very slow stop & go driving for a couple of miles, and again a bit further west. All in all, it added about 2 hours to the trip. Still, it could have been worse. Some friends were traveling from Albany to Binghamton, usually a couple of hour drive down I 88, but they closed part of it, and most of the alternates they could have used. It took them 9 hours for a round trip that is usually under 4 hours. I grabbed some photos along US 20 - couldn't stop, so they are thru the window stuff...

I ended up driving through Syracuse & catching NY 481 in East Syracuse.

So, another Nantucket vacation is over. I brought home 2 huge boxes of my parents slides that have been buried in the attic for over 20 years. Not sure what is on them - I hope to find some photos of my mother's paintings, and some from their many trips. Not sure when I'll get to them - my schedule if fairly packed for the next month or two!
