Well, I was feeling better this morning, so we drove back on US 2 to the west end of the park & joined the Guidos at Fish Creek. There are a number of wildfires in the park - I took a photograph of Lake McDonald from the shore near the Fish Creek campground, and love the view but wish the haze was gone.

After packing up the Guidos, it was off along the Going to the Sun road. As I said in my last post, this is by far the prettiest road I've traveled. We have also seen the Beartooth Highway, the Chief Joseph's Highway, The Pacific Coast Highway in California, and many, many beautiful drives across the country, but this road tops them all. Every turn (and there are many of them) brings a new & different view. You do have to keep your eyes on the road - it is narrow & has low or non existent guard rails on the down hill side and little clearance on the uphill side. There is a limit of 21' for length & 8' for width that is necessary - any wider than that will have you scraping either the cars in the opposite lane or the sides of the mountains. Although there are many turnouts, they are small, and often filled with cars, and there is no passing for almost the entire length of the road, so you can expect a slow, long drive, but that said, it is a wonderful drive.

At the east end of the road we left the park to camp for the night at site J5 in the St. Mary Lake KOA Campground.
