A note on Photographs - All of us are taking pictures - I'll do my best to give photo credits with an initial, but if I miss one be sure to let me know! J = Jon, D = Don, A = Anne & C = Carol. You can usually tell Anne's - her camera puts the date on the image! Also, most of the images are scans of old & faded prints, so the quality may not be all that hot.

June 11 - Gatlinberg, TN & Smokemont State Park (166mi)

Today we continued down the Blue Ridge Parkway. We decided to make a side trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, however at $28.00 each for the 4 of us we decided to keep going. As we reached the end of the parkway, we passed a sign for Gatlinburg, TN, and decided since it is only 15 miles away we should stop and check out the antiques. Besides, it would also be a good excuse to add the great state of Tennessee to our list of states traveled. Didn't buy anything...

By the way, if you don't know why they are called the Smoky Mountains, here are a couple of pictures. We decided to spend the night in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and ended up at Site A4 at the Smokemont Campground in TN. Our site very dirty (natural, not trash) but along side a pretty stream, the Bradley Fork. Oh, and just in case you asked, Yes, it is still raining!

Smokemont has an interesting feature - Black Bears! Now Carol really has a thing about bears; she doesn't like them! We never saw any, however we heard people who did during the night. Lost of yelling, banging of pots & pans, etc. Tomorrow, we will be leaving the National Parks & head into South Carolina & Georgia.
